19th Century Victorian Pine & Sycamore Welsh Dresser c1870

An exceptional Victorian Welsh dresser of impressive scale, crafted in solid pine and retaining its rare original sycamore worktop. Renowned as a traditional “dairy wood”, sycamore was prized for its hard, close-grained surface, making it ideal for food preparation.

The base features two short drawers over two deep graduating drawers alongside a spacious cupboard, all displaying quality hand-cut dovetail construction and original brass cup handles. Above, a classic open plate rack with deep shelving and a moulded cornice provides superb display space.

Beautifully aged and rich in character, the dresser has been sympathetically cleaned, waxed and revived while preserving the authentic wear, patina, and charm accumulated over more than 150 years.

Sympathetically restored throughout. All drawers run smoothly and runners have been replaced/serviced where necessary. Treated, waxed and polished. Surface marks and patina commensurate with age and use. Structurally solid.
